Overview
The Irish Red Cross is deeply grateful to everyone who offers a home to those in need. Your generosity provides safety, comfort, and a sense of stability to families and individuals who have had to leave everything behind. However, due to operational and legal considerations, not all pledged properties can be accepted.
We accept two types of properties for hosting placements:
1. Shared Properties
Shared properties are homes where other residents already live and at least one single spare room is available for a guest.
Requirements:
• Private bedroom of reasonable size for the guest.
• Direct access to cooking facilities, and either shared or private bathroom.
• Guests’ privacy and safety must be ensured at all times.
• Where children are present in the guest family, placements will only take place if all adult residents have undergone Garda vetting. The Irish Red Cross supports hosts through the Garda Vetting process.
2. Vacant Properties
Vacant properties are fully unoccupied homes, available for the exclusive use of hosted guests.
Requirements:
• At least one bedroom is available for the guest.
• No one else lives in the property.
• Must comply with minimum dwelling standards or minimum standards to rental properties where applicable. Additional Requirements
• Properties must be located within 2 km of essential services (healthcare, education, employment supports, language classes), or have reliable access to public transport within reasonable walking distance.
• All pledges must be for at least six months. Short-term or ad hoc arrangements are not accepted.
